Cyprus – pearl of the Mediterranean

Have you ever been to Cyprus? Go there once and you will never forget its amazing Mediterranean beaches! Cyprus is full of legends and charming landscapes. Here you can see the beauty of the Greek temples, Roman pagan theaters and early Christian monasteries, Byzantine churches, magic castles, Gothic cathedrals and the Venetian Walls. Here are some cognitive facts about the island.



You can go round the whole Cyprus by car or by bus just in one day. The total length of coastline is 780 km. The island covers an area of 9250 square kilometers. It is situated in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea and is located at the junction of three continents: Asia, Europe and Africa. The healthiest climate in the world belongs to Cyprus, that is why it is so popular for tourism.


Here you can visit the ancient city Salyamis, see Famagusta and admire Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque. This is a unique Gothic architecture! Nicosia is a unique city which also is a divided capital of two states at the same time – the Republic of Cyprus, inhabited by the Greeks, and Northern Cyprus – by Turks. There are the amazing Kyrenia gates – the entrance in the wall to Nicosia, which was erected in the 16th century.


In 16 kilometers from Kyrenia, you can stroll along the Turtle beach and see a lot of these “wise” marine and green creatures. Its official name is Alagadi beach – one of the cleanest beaches in the whole northern part of Cyprus. The most important thing is to get there in the evening and see how these cute turtles crawl out from the sand and turn their steps to the sea.

In the same region you can find the Abbey of Bellapais. It was built by the monks of Jerusalem in the 13th century. It is also a wonderful monument of Gothic style and just unbelievable architectural structure!


There is a lake in the region of Larnaca, which is inhabited by thousands of pink flamingos! This lake is called Aliki. But they can be seen only in the winter season, from December to March when the rainy season comes, it’s time for flamingos to hibernate. In summer the lake is dried up and covered with a layer of salt.

Ayia Napa is a resort town in Cyprus, located in the eastern part of the island. Its Nissi Beach is one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean! It is the most popular beach for the tourists. Here you won’t find the seclusion, but you will definitely see incredible coral reefs in the clear as tear water and divers, who also like to come here.


The mixture of Mediterranean and eastern culinary traditions, as well as British cuisine forms the basis of the national cuisine in Cyprus.The traditional dish in Cyprus is “Meze” – a set of 8-10 firm dishes. Most often, it includes tallaturi (cucumber salad with garlic and yogurt), melindzano salad (eggplant salad with spices) and hummi kompanisti (yellow pea mousse with olive oil and parsley), a variety of meat and fish dishes. “Meze” also includes a mixed salad of tomato and cucumber, olives and feta cheese. Typical Cypriot dishes are soups from egg yolks, herbs and lemon juice. Chicken, nightshade, lentil soups, as well as noodle soup are also popular here.

Cyprus is a wonderful place that combines the advantages of the resort island with its abundance of spectacular beaches, as well as a variety of attractions that won’t leave you indifferent!
