Dudhsagar Waterfall. India
This wonderful waterfall is called Dudhsagar Falls. It is located in the nature reserve of Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park, in the state of Goa, India. It’s about 60 kilometers from the administrative center of North Goa.
This is one of the most important attractions of Goa. In addition, Dudhsagar is among the hundred of the highest waterfalls in the world. Dudhsagar Falls is a multilevel system. Its total length is about 603 meters and a height – 310 meters.
The name “Dudhsagar” can be literally translated as “Sea of Milk” (Dudh: milk, Sagar: sea). It got its name because of the color of the water, which seems to be milky white.
Also, there is a legend that explains the name of the waterfall. It says that before there lived a beautiful princess in a palace which was located on this territory. The girl loved bathing underneath streams of the waterfall, and always after washing she used to drink a pitcher of milk.
One day, while swimming, the princess noticed a man watching her through the leaves of trees. It was a handsome prince. The naked girl was so confused, and to cover the body, she poured a pitcher of milk into a waterfall. Milky-white jets hid the body of the young princess for a moment and the servants managed to cover the girl with clothes. Since then, milk waterfall cascades over a near-vertical wall and reminds people of modest Princess of the Ghats.
At the foot of the waterfall there is a pool, a small lake with fresh water. They say it is home to such fish that if you crumble some bread, they will jump up high above the water.
Here you can also see the old railway bridge, which was built during the British occupation of India. The bridge and trains are still used as regular transport from Goa to Karnataka.
Every year millions of tourists come to the territory of Goa, to watch this indescribable beauty. Here you can also feed some unwary animals by nuts or fruit, and ride on the back of an elephant. In addition, travel agencies can offer you to visit gardens of the numerous exotic plants and a spice plantation, where you can taste the local alcoholic beverage. This cocktail is made by an ancient secret recipe of fruit of the nut tree cashew and coconut pulp.
