Every country in the world has its own attractions, which annually attract millions lovers of adventure, travelling and outdoor recreation. If you are tired of the constant bustle of city and want to find seclusion, this is exactly what you need! Pacification and tranquility. Meet – this is Italy. To be more precise – a small alpine Lake Braies known in its homeland as Lago di Braies.
This lake is located in the valley of Braies at the altitude of 1496 meters above sea level, about 97 km from the town of Bolzano in South Tyrol. The lake stretches at foot of the cliff Croda del Becco, as inimitable as the lake itself. It is part of the Natural Park Fares-Sennes-Braies. The lake is 1200 m long and 300-400 meters wide. The maximal depth of the lake is 38 meters, and the average is about 17 meters. These figures make Braies one of the deepest lakes in the Alpine region of Alto Adige.
The “pearl of the Dolomites” was formed by the landslides descended from the rock Sasso del Signore. It is often referred to such a beautiful name because the lake is surrounded by the glorious rocky cliffs of the Dolomites on three sides. The crystal-clear waters of Lake Braies with its cerulean hue attract millions of people from all corners of our planet. The charming natural landscape doesn’t leave indifferent any photographer!
If you decide to come here, plan a trip in the summer season. At this time of the year water in the lake Braies has the highest temperature, but still it will be pretty cool and not everyone dares to dip into it. But you can also rent a boat at the berth and enjoy the surrounding beauty directly from the water. This pleasure will cost you 10 euros for 30 minutes, or 15 euros per hour.
Hiking trails and convenient footpaths have been specially designed for the travelers, and you’ll find here the equipped picnic areas. If the tent is not your cup of tea, you can stay in Hotel Lago di Braies – stunning views of the mountains and the lake Braies are guaranteed!
Even the locals tired of heavy work days come here rather often to walk along the shore of the reservoir, enjoy a small picnic or update photos on social networks. Therefore, it is recommended to come here early in the morning to take a place on a paid parking lot.
