Lakshadweep Islands. India
Lakshadweep is a group of islands which is located between the Arabian Sea and the Laccadive Sea. Sometimes they are called Laccadive Islands, but geographically it is a name only of the central subgroup of the islands. The name “Lakshadweep” can be translated from Sanskrit (“Lakshadweepa”) as “one hundred thousand islands”.
Lakshadweep consists of groups of atolls, coral reefs and 36 islands, which are located at a distance of 400 kilometers from the coast of Kerala. Lakshadweep Islands – one of the most secluded and pristine places on the planet. Lost at sea, far from civilization, these islands are not subjected to outside influence, and therefore the nature here remained untouched. Only 10 of 36 islands are inhabited.
The surface of the islands is covered with emerald green and white sandy beaches. In the lagoons of the islands, you can find unique forms of marine life, and on the beach – bright shells. Do not forget about the Aborigines! Who also are worth attention. Geologically, the coral islands of Lakshadweep belong to the same chain as the Maldives.
Kavaratti – the capital of the island union. There are many opportunities for outdoor activities, marine adventures or just a relaxing holiday – you can rent boats and kayaks, take a walk by the sea on the glass-bottom boat, visit a local Marine Aquarium, ride a motor boat or simply soak up the sun on the golden sands.
The most appropriate place for a luxury holiday is the island of Bangaram. In the lagoon of this small island there are two tiny islets – Thinnakara and Parali. Here you can see an amazing spectacle – at night the phosphorescent plankton approaches to the coast, and begins to glow by a shimmering light, and it looks really mysteriously. The waters around the island of Bangaram are peaceful, so here is the most popular place to practice snorkeling. The cleanest white sand beaches, picturesque lagoons and a variety of marine life in the surrounding waters are waiting for you on the island. Speaking of Lakshadweep in general, we can safely say that in addition to the unique nature, a few hotels and dive centers, practically nothing more can be found on the islands. Therefore, you should bring with you all kinds of stuff needed for a comfortable life, like medicines, cigarettes and cosmetics.
These islands are a great chance for divers to enjoy the nature of the underwater world. The ecosystem of Lakshadweep is famous for its variety: living corals, several species of sharks, turtles, barracudas, stingrays, sea urchins, leopard moray eels, sand eels and so on. Here you have an opportunity to dive on a galleon which has sunk 200 years ago near one of the islands. You may also practice fishing, sailing, surfing.
